TAKING THE UPPER HAND

I want to talk to you for a minute on a topic that I’ve recently had the joy of researching first-hand.

This goes into the topic of posture (which many of you are familiar with in the e-book) and I hope this demonstrates what I mean by turning the tables on a woman and showing her you are not a wimp.

The usual pattern of male interaction (at least for 90% of the “nice guys” out there) is that they will often start to fear losing a woman far too quickly.

Recently, I had to cut loose one of my low-grade prospects because of her lack of effort. It wasn’t easy at first, but I remembered that my attitude is FIRST and foremost, and keeping her around, selling off bits of my self-esteem to keep seeing her would have been more damaging than beneficial.

Here’s the message that I gave her:

“Hey, girl… I tried calling you so I could talk to you in person, but no luck. I’ve been thinking, and it doesn’t seem like a good time for us to be seeing each other. I really need a little more TLC right now and enthusiasm if I’m going to keep seeing someone. I think it’s better if we can just be friends.

No criticism of you, I just have high standards when it comes to the level of attention I require. Good luck!”

Yes, that’s what I told her, because I could smell her flakiness starting to come on, and it got to the point where I couldn’t reach her in person.

You know that smell, don’t you? When a woman starts to hold back on contacting you, and you can tell that she’s either trying to play the old “hard to get” game (probably after reading The Rules but not knowing how to use them appropriately) or she’s starting to lose interest.

Most guys totally screw it up right here. They will proceed to push down harder on the gas, not realizing that she’s already pulled up on the emergency brake. They start to panic, and they call her ten times a day to find out what is wrong, why won’t she call?

Cut her off and take the upper hand back.

The bottom line is that I needed that slice of time back for ME, not wasting it on a woman who wasn’t an active and producing part of my investment portfolio. The other stocks I’ve chosen deserve my attention, and they’ll get further investments if they keep producing. But keeping her around is detrimental overall.

I did my part by demonstrating good faith in making the first installment investment, which every guy should do. That initial investment is your effort to get to that first date or meeting with her (introducing yourself, getting the phone number, calling her, setting the date). Everything after this point MUST have a return on your investment.

What kind of “return” are you looking for?

If she fails to kiss you on your first date (after a COMPETENT attempt by you) then she’s dropped.

If she does not keep returning energy, affection, or any of the needs you have from her, GET RID OF HER.

If she’s more of a liability or a drain to be around than uplifting and fun – she’s better off playing for another team!

Drop her.

How many times have YOU told a woman you would “rather just be friends”?

When I told a friend of mine that I had used that line on her, he thought it was the most original thing he’d heard and couldn’t stop chuckling at the irony. (I’ll bet HE has never used that on a woman himself.)

Why haven’t you done that to HER for a change? Why haven’t you dropped a bomb in her lap by telling her you’d rather just be friends?

Because you were always more scared of losing out on potential pussy than you were at keeping your self-esteem high. Until you value your own sense of confidence and self-esteem more than a piece of ass, SHE will always CONTROL YOU.

(Whoah… this guy is to the point…)

Amen, brother.

I can’t tell you how many people take poor advice… be it about losing weight, money, sex, love, relationships, work… from people that aren’t even there themselves…

Like the financial planner that just got out of college… do you seriously think that he/she is where YOU WANT TO BE.

Of course not.

That’s why I throw up stories and other relative things… because you need to know if I’m walking the walk… or just blowing smoke.

Here’s another social proof story for you from this past weekend.

So I call a buddy of mine that I haven’t seen in a while and find out what’s going on Sat night. I’ve just moved back into town and… of course… I’m using my principles of “social explosion” that I explain in “Explode Your Influence” to get back in the game.

We go out and meet a few women that he knows (and naturally, he’s told one of them ALL ABOUT ME).

Was I surprised when she reacted favorable toward me? Was I surprised when she’s been calling him to find out if “I liked her at ALL”?

Nope.

That’s just a little example of social proof in action.

Here’s another:

So that same night… my friend is watching me effortlessly talk to woman after woman… no real goal in mind… just talking and having fun.

At the end of the night… we end up at the damn Waffle House.

We see a group of seven getting out of a Lexus and a Mercedes… and of course, I can’t let my guy down can I

I start small talking one of the girls (the “leader” of the group) by the bathroom… and the next thing I know… I’m sitting there with 4 women around me at the table… my buddy’s at another table with the other ones.

The conversation was wild and I promise that every one of those women at the table ended up talking about the “naughty” things that they would do to me.

And I’m not even trying… I’m just laughing at them… and saying “Oh, really, do you think she’s better than YOU?”

Hell, they even bought my food… in fact, they INSISTED ON IT.

Afterward… my friend… who’s no slouch with women either… calls me a few days later and asks me what my weekend looks like…

Apparently, he’s been running his mouth about the weekend and two of his women friends want to hang out, one of which is a model (so he says… lol).

Exact words… “I’ve already told them about you… and they want to meet you…”

How do you think that is going to go?

Pretty favorably… don’t you think?

Remember, the better and better you get at this… the easier it gets. People WANT to introduce you to other people… because now you can do things that most people can’t. AND, since they know that you are going to make a good impression, they’ll gladly refer people over “to you”.

Think about how powerful that is.

I had a woman ask me a question when I was visiting her in San Diego that completely blew my mind… because no one has EVER asked me anything like this before.

And honestly… I’m ashamed to say that I really didn’t have a great answer for her.

BUT… once I started thinking about it… I figured out that this one question can really let you see inside a woman’s soul… to see what she’s really about.

After a bit of small talk, you can really switch gears by saying…

“I’ve got an interesting question for you… one that I am pretty sure you have never thought of an answer for. And, the reason I ask is because you can really get a feel for what a person’s about by analyzing the answer… it’s almost like a window into your soul.

What would your perfect day be like?” (or “Describe your perfect day for me”)

Here’s why it’s so powerful…

Number One — No one wants to give a horrible answer to this question… so… in essence, you’ve just forced her to qualify herself to you. Think about it. She’s not going to say anything lame, especially sense you’ve just told her that you can tell what a person is about by the answer. This is VERY POWERFUL psychologically.

Number Two — Most women are going to respond with something involving a bit of romance… sex… or the sharing of the experience with someone special. This gives her the opportunity to talk about these types of things without you inherently probing to get her to talk about it. She talks about it on her own.

Number Three — Thinking about a “perfect day” puts people in a good mood. Also, people relax a little more because they are now thinking of being in a relaxing type environment. Plus, since you are there, it helps to anchor those feelings to you.

Number Four — This is a great TRUST and RAPPORT question. Remember, no one asks this question of anyone so because you’ve asked, she has shared something with you that NO ONE ELSE KNOWS.

Number Five — The answer she gives will tell you A LOT about what’s important TO HER… and you can gage whether she might be a gold digger… a little psycho… etc. PLUS, the answer gives you great conversation points to talk about… or make fun of

Seriously, give this question a try and see what happens… you’ll be amazed at some of the responses…

The definition of courage is doing something even when you are afraid of what you are getting ready to do. Courage isn’t the guy that always talks to women. This is REGULAR LIFE for him.

Are you afraid of talking to women?

If so… let me give you a few pieces of advice… take them if you wish.

Number 1 — Just start talking to women every chance you get. Don’t have an outcome in mind. Just talk. Make conversation. Say hello to every woman you can. Talk about non-trivial things. Ask for an opinion on a current event.

It doesn’t matter. Just start talking.

Number 2 — If you’re really bashful and number 1 seems to be difficult… get yourself a part time job in a service industry. Wait tables a few nights a week, work at a gym at the front desk (great choice by the way)… etc.

This way, you are forced to have to talk to people. You meet people. You have fun and get used to talking to strangers ALL THE TIME.

You’ll naturally learn how to give people a hard time (playing around of course) PLUS these people will see you around in other places, say hello, introduce you to friends, etc…

If you’re looking to “break out”, living in solitude isn’t the answer.

Believe me, people WANT to talk to you…

Did I try to get somewhere with every one of them… nope.

Actually, I was just trying to show a friend of mine that there’s nothing to be afraid of… that women are generally pretty open to meeting interesting, fun guys.

And, in fact, most of them are intimidated by these types of men…

So guess what… that means that if YOU DON’T GO TALK… you’ll NEVER meet them… ’cause they surely aren’t gonna do it.

Women get nervous JUST LIKE MEN DO… and… quite honestly… I find them to be even MORE NERVOUS.

Think about it… these two women had been WAITING FOR ME for awhile… and if I hadn’t noticed them… they would have never been able to talk to me.

The next time you’re wondering if you should go start a conversation with someone… think about this scenario.

After all, you could be doing her a HUGE FAVOR.

I have a challenge for you… and the real reason that I’m doing this is because it’s something that I recently did.

Get rid of all of the women that don’t fit what you are looking for.

I noticed in my own life that I had a few women that I kept on a string… just in case I didn’t have anything else to do. Unfortunately, when you’re in this situation… you don’t find things to do… to just revert back to “old faithful”. If you’ve got a stable of women that fall into this catagory…

… move on. Quit talking to them.

It’s just like business… if you need to fire someone but you “can’t” because you don’t have anyone to take their place… fire them anyway.

Fact: most people won’t start looking for other options until the sense of urgency dictates them to do so.

Don’t get complacent in anything… especially if it isn’t up to your standards.

Remember, without urgency, there are no results.

(and, on the sense of urgency kick… tell yourself you have two days to meet 30 women that fit what you are looking for… then execute… and marvel at the results)

Here’s why you need to dump the scraps (for lack of a better term)…

Starting over and succeeding breeds confidence.

Sure, it may be a little scary… but that’s the price you pay for stretching your boundaries and growing as a person.

No pain, no discomfort… no personal growth.

And, the more confidence that you can develop, the less you worry about kicking undeserving women to the curb. You don’t HAVE to put up with any B.S…

In fact, why would you?

On that note, don’t you think that women will realize that you don’t have to be around.

I was watching “John Tucker Must Die” the other day (okay movie, catch on a slow day) and the 3 girls that were fighting over him said something like…

“Sure, we could break up with him… but he’d have another girlfriend in a week…”

Interesting.

This guy is cheating on ALL OF THEM and they don’t want to break up with him because of his ability to get other women quickly.

Let’s ponder this for a minute.

Now, we all know that women are fiercely competitive with each other. I have to confess, I was talking to a “player” of a woman the other day when she admitted…

“There’s nothing like snatching a man from the clutches of another woman”

Interesting. Provocative even.

It’s the “you want what you can’t have” syndrome all over again.

Create scarcity with yourself when you can… and resolve to never settle for less than that what you desire.

“Second place just means first loser”

Change.

It’s the one thing that you can count on.

Unfortunately, you can either be affected by change or capitalize on change. There is no in between.

Here’s the deal:

Most people are afraid of change. But, what’s even scarier is that there are a lot of people that are afraid of success as well.

Naturally, most people find this hard to believe. However, if you think about it… many people tend to sabotage themselves by their mindsets… or their actions… or lack thereof.

Interestingly enough… it’s not the fact that guys are afraid of getting shut down…

Guys are afraid that they don’t know what to do if she says, “YES”.

“Essentially, what many men are doing is waiting. Waiting for permission. Waiting for fate. Waiting for the right moment. In fact, every person on the planet has something that they want and are just waiting to have happen, but haven’t made it happen yet”

Every decision you make in life is an active decision. If you choose to not go talk to her… you are actively choosing to not talk to her.

It’s not being lazy per se… it’s just an unproductive decision.

An idea:

Start to think of every decision that you make in terms of if that decision is moving you closer… or farther away from your goal. I guarantee you that you’ll think a little differently when you have the opportunity to make some changes.

I need to repeat something that I’ve said at another time.

Unsuccessful people fear change… successful people CAPITALIZE on it… even FORCE it.

You are your own worst enemy… yet… you can also be your own best friend.

You are the only person that can make changes. Your decisions about yourself determine your course.

Don’t think about the actions that you need to take… just TAKE THEM.

People try to plan their lives out… and never end up getting started. It’s analysis paralysis to the worst degree. Or, what’s even worse… it’s guys that talk about making change… yet never do anything.

A well known general once said something like:

“Even the best laid battle plans are f’d when the first bullet is fired”

Quit planning… and get DOING.

Listen, instead of giving a woman what you THINK she wants… presents, gifts, dinners, etc… GIVE HER WHAT SHE REALLY WANTS.

You must be willing to do what other people won’t do. That is the difference between the successful… and the unsuccessful.

Worst case scenario… learn about manipulation so that you can PROTECT yourself from it. Why not discover when women are trying to be malicious against you? Doesn’t that sound like a hell of an idea?

How would you react if you knew that someone was “slyly” trying to force their will on you?

Would you get pissed?

Or would you want to “flip the script”… and let the other person know that they’ll get BURIED if they continue to act the way that they are acting?

I know what my choice would be… and IS.

Why do we make these mistakes?

Women are who they are… and you aren’t going to change that. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen guys make excuses for the women that they’re with (and actually, it works the other way as well, too)

Things like:

Yeah, she’s like that because (insert childhood drama).

-or-

She only acts like that because she has (insert over-inflated problem).

-or-

Yeah, she cheated on her husband with me… she’ll never cheat on me though.

Look, she is WHO SHE IS.

Her problems define her. They most likely aren’t going to change.

Listen to your close friends. If more than one friend is telling you that a woman is bad for you… dump her. Trust me, they can see everything that you can’t.

If she has qualities that you are continuing to have to defend… she’s gotta go.

If you’re continually telling people that they just don’t understand the DYNAMIC between the two of you… think about what you’re really into.

I like this quote from “Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift”. It’s when Han is talking to the kid about racing… and wreaking his car… really pay attention because I truly feel that this is important:

I have money… it’s TRUST and CHARACTER I need around me.

You know… who you choose to be around you… let’s you know who you are.

One car in exchange for knowing what a man’s made of… … that’s a price I can live with.

Remember, it’s your standards that eventually define you.

… and a woman that’s bad for you tells everyone else exactly where you think your own self worth is… because NO ONE is THAT oblivious to the facts.

However, if someone asked you to NOTICE how many red shirts there were… you’d have a great idea of the number.

Here’s how it applies to you.

Most guys don’t know what type of girl that they want. Seriously. Think about it.

I’m not going to harp on the Dating Black Book… I’m not gonna say that I recommend it… or not.
